Needs List

Are you feeling moved to support our mission? Please consider helping donate a few items from our current needs list. We appreciate your support.

A resident moved us to tears recently after sharing that she was so excited to have hot running water that when she moved in with us, she went to the dollar store and bought 1 of every shampoo fragrance. It is difficult to see sometimes how your contributions matter to the lives of the people you are helping, but trust that your gifts help them feel loved and valued. Please consider donating today.

Volunteers Needed

We appreciate your support and encouragement. Please consider how you might serve with us in one of the following ways. If you have any questions please contact us!

1. Cooking Class Teacher
Part of our life skills program. We need a cooking class teacher for the first 2 Wednesdays of each month at 10am to last no longer than 2 hours. You can choose your own recipe to share and are expected to supply the materials for an average class size of 4-6.

2. Crafts Class Teacher
Arts & Crafts is one of our residents’ favorite activities! We need a teacher to lead craft time on Tuesday evening at 6pm once a month. This is a unique class. You will get to spend time with our residents in an hour long class and help them to express themselves, heal, and build confidence. Teachers choose the craft and supply materials.

3. Basement Organization
Help us organize the storage in the basement to make the most of our donations and inventory what we have.

4. Evening Shift Volunteer
We need a volunteer who enjoys working with people to help to ensure the house runs smoothly during the evening hours and give our house moms and day volunteers time to refresh themselves. We can be flexible on dates and times. Contact for details on what this entails and if interested.

Prayer Requests

Prayer is a vital part of the life of the believer, and we appreciate your prayers to support the residents and our ministry. Below are suggested prayers that are directed to our residents, staff, and volunteer needs. Thank you for your support.

"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people."
Ephesians 6:18
  • Pray for each resident staying at the home; for healing, for peace, and for them to know the love of Christ and God the Father during their stay.
  • Pray for good health of residents and volunteers
  • Pray for restored relationships between family members; between parents and residents, between residents and their children, between residents and their spouses. Many have a need for mended and healthy relationships; where that is not possible please pray for ability to set healthy boundaries and for forgiveness.
  • Pray for those who have lost loved ones; many of our residents feel the pain of loss deeply and it has often been a trigger for destructive behaviors. Pray for comfort and for them to know Christ’s presence in their life.
  • Pray for our residents to have grace to forgive themselves for past mistakes and to have courage to press on and achieve their dreams and goals.
  • Pray for those seeking employment.
  • Pray for those with child
  • Pray for those caring for infants and young children
  • Pray for clear and gracious communication between staff and residents.
  • Pray for those employed and juggling many appointments, classes, and day to day tasks.
  • Pray for those with chronic health conditions that impact their ability to find employment and their day to day life.
  • Pray for those in recovery from substance abuse.
  • Pray for protection from the enemy and for grace and patience with one another; in a situation already heightened due to very trying life circumstances, we have found that different personalities, health issues, and the day to day tasks required by this program can create an environment where residents and staff must grow in their ability to display patient and gracious attitudes towards one another. Pray that they learn of Christ’s love and patience, that they might display this to others.
  • Pray for our volunteer house moms: Yvonne, who gives so much and is a tremendous source of comfort and help for the residents. For J, who is a strong role model, juggling many responsibilities as house mom while maintaining a job
  • Pray for our staff to have wisdom, patience, to be gracious and full of the Holy Spirit as they navigate daily challenges in helping women achieve and set goals, attend doctor appointments, court hearings, and work through interpersonal conflicts.
  • Pray for the board of directors; for their wisdom and for God to lead them in decision making that will bring glory to Him through this ministry.

7th Annual Evening of Inspiration

We at Guiding Light Ministries are excited to invite you to our 7th Annual Evening of Inspiration Fundraising Dinner. This will take place on October 28th, 2021 at the Civic Center City Club, starting at 6 pm.

This is a formal event, so get fancy and come celebrate the success stories of residents past and present. Our focus this year will be the effects of homelessness in our community regarding housing, recovery, and trauma. We are looking forward to an evening of hope in the face of hardship.

The cost is $50/seat or a table of eight for $350. So sign up your agency/church/club/family/self and grab a seat while there is still one available.

Note: We are still accepting donations towards our silent auction. If you have something you wish to contribute, please let us know.

If you have any questions or wish to RSVP, please call Jessica at 419-204-0242. We can’t wait to see you!!

Thank you!

Donations

Thank you for your generosity! Please also visit our Donate page to learn more about what kind of donations are needed and how to donate. Below are some ideas for service projects that your church, ministry team, youth group, or bible study can get involved in. Please contact us if you’d like to work with us in this way.

Donation Drive
Organize your local church, group or business to hold a donations drive for Guiding Light. For example, hold a drive for paper products, canned goods, or baby items.

Inventorying
We strive to be good stewards with what we have been given. Volunteers can spend a few hours taking inventory of our donations. This tells us exactly what we have – or what we need most.

Sorting/Organizing
Get a group together to spend a few hours organizing the donations in our basement. No dust bunnies here!

House Moms

Our policy is to have supervision 24/7 at the Guiding Light home. We need reliable volunteers who can be housemoms and provide supervision and guidance. You can volunteer during a time that fits your schedule. You don’t have to have special qualifications, just a positive attitude! We do, however, require training in some basic classes to volunteer in this capacity.

Depending on the time of day, duties might include

-Overseeing meal times and helping with cooking
-Staying overnight
-Transportation to doctor appointments or interviews
-Day outings

Education

Do you like to teach and have something to share? Part of our mission at Guiding Light is to encourage continuing education in order to equip these precious ladies for success once they have obtained housing. Here are some classes we’d like to add:

– Exercise (morning)
– Homemade products
– Budgeting

This is a relaxed environment where we have fun and learn together. You need no special qualifications, just a willingness to teach!

Titus 2:7-8 “In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness, and soundness of speech…”
